The Golden Dome and the King with a Kind Heart

“The Golden Dome and the King with a Kind Heart” tells the story of the wise and compassionate King Dutugemunu of ancient Sri Lanka, who is inspired by a divine dream of a white elephant to build the magnificent Ruwanweli Maha Seya stupa in Anuradhapura. Driven by a desire to foster peace, kindness, and the teachings of the Buddha, the King unites people from all walks of life—farmers, artisans, children, and even monks—who contribute their labour, humble bricks, and pure intentions to bring the monumental vision to life.

As the grand stupa nears completion, an ageing King Dutugemunu is carried to view the structure, finding deep peace in his final days. The story concludes by celebrating Ruwanweli Maha Seya as a timeless monument that continues to stand tall and radiant, serving as a reminder that great and enduring things are built through love, unity, and kind hearts.
